Do you ever wish you could write a letter to yourself in the past? Oh, the knowledge you would share with that naive kid stumbling through college and trying to figure out early career options. Kristin Anthony's podcast, Dear Instructional Designer, comes from that mindset - with the goal of sharing some knowledge to instructional designers from all levels of experience.

In this episode, she speaks with Cara North, an Instructional Designer and LMS Administrator for Ohio State University's Center on Education and Training for Employment. That sounds like a lot of work. These two dive into a wide range of digital tools for everything from authoring, managing user profiles, badges, and more.

[12:35] - Empowering employees to register themselves for an LMS is key to winning them over early. Sure sounds better than "Hey we signed you up for this thing..." doesn't it?

[23:30] - They use a solution outside of their LMS for digital badges, with varying degrees of success. Some people love collecting virtual marks of achievement, but others could not care less.

This is a key moment to keep in mind some Advanced Gamification 101. What truly motivates people? Do they see the course itself as enough motivation? Can they earn points that might mean something as they "level up" their career?

With all of this hot software talk, it gets you thinking... Does your LMS do enough? What’s good about it? What’s not so good? What are some things you wish it could do? What.. is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? Can we ask any more questions?
